Preorders and backorders: timelines and partial shipments

Understand preorder and backorder timelines, charges, and partial shipments, plus how to track items.

Preorders and backorders

Some items are offered as preorders (not yet released) or backorders (temporarily out of stock). This guide explains timelines, charges, and partial shipments.

Key points

  • Timelines: Estimated ship dates appear on the product page and in checkout. Dates may shift due to supplier and carrier updates.
  • Charges: Your payment method may be authorized at checkout. Depending on the method and region, you may be charged at ship time.
  • Partial shipments: In-stock items ship first; preorder/backorder items ship later. You’ll receive separate tracking emails.

How to track preorder/backorder items

  1. Go to Account > Orders.
  2. Select the order to view item-level status (e.g., In Stock, Preorder, Backordered).
  3. When items ship, you’ll get a shipping confirmation with tracking. Delivery may be split into multiple packages.

Can I change or cancel?

  • Address changes: Update your shipping address before the item is allocated to a shipment.
  • Cancellations: You can cancel unshipped items within the posted cutoff window. See Edit or cancel my order.

Payments and SCA/3DS

Some cards require 3‑D Secure (SCA/3DS) at the time of charge. If your order spans multiple shipments, you may see separate charges. BNPL/Pay in 4 plans generally follow the original schedule.

Returns

Preorder/backorder items follow the standard return policy unless noted on the product page.
